The Proposal

August 3, 2009

Last night we watched this movie. I almost died laughing. There are some films where you should have just opted seeing at your home, something that just dvd-from-metrowalk-worthy like feel good ones, romantic-comedy, sleazy horror movies and Chuck Norris re-runs. However, this one deserves a seat in the cinemas, for me. I’m a fan of Ryan Renolds.
The story is rather simple. There are just some offers you can’t and won’t resist. Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is the editor-in-chief of a publishing company and Andrew Paxton (Ryan Renolds) is her bitch, errrm assistant executive secretary. Andrew hates her guts because for 3 years he has been slave-driving him. You know, the normal thing that bosses do. However, the tables turned when Margarette was informed that her visa application was denied. She’s Canadian, by the way. She doesn’t want to lose her job to the person whom she just fired. So in act of desperation, she announced that she and Andrew were engaged. Andrew, dumbstruck by the horrendous act made a deal though that  in retun, she should promote him to Editor-in-chief and get his manuscipt published. Thus, the rollercoaster ride starts as they try to get her “fiancee visa” application approved by making it legal. Yes, as in tying the knot in Andrew’s hometown Sitka, Alaska where at the same time he was being convinced by his deranged father to return there and manage their business.

Of course, there was a happy ending. But you have to see it to believe it.  The chemistry between Ryan and Sandra was really something to watch out for.  It’s kind of like Miss Congeniality but with more balls. Her character is one tough cookie and it compliments Ryan’s seemingly masochistic persona.

Ultimately, the movie tries to make the viewers realized that love can be selfish but if found to be true change even the most manipulating and vile person. It may not be love at first sight. In fact, it’s rather loathe. However, like the polar caps melting because of global warming,  hearts made of ice were turned into an organ pumping blood  full of love.

This is exactly how I envisioned my marriage. hahahhaa. Just kidding.  Watch it!
